Entrepreneur Advice – Problem Solving

If you’re wrestling, dogged or haunted by a business problem that is rearing its head day and night and every solution, sticky note, stream of consciousness, research, study, meditation or even jot on a cocktail napkin can’t crack the code, chances are you’ve turned this problem inward.  Now, not only are you grappling with the same, stuck situation, but the process is peppered with angst, frustration and a stream of ugly chatter targeting your self-confidence, soul and self-worth.

Here is some very simple and very powerful entrepreneur advice on problem solving: recognize that this exact situation means YOU are in your way.  If you have proven to yourself for the last one-two-three-six months that you can’t move yourself ahead, then you have proven that the process you are using is not working, no matter how many alterations to the process you have made. That leaves you with one more variable to switch – the YOU part of your process.

The faster you admit you are in the way, the faster you will seek out someone who can either do THAT thing you need to do or teach you how to do that thing.  Half the battle is identifying what that thing is.

Here is my next important entrepreneur advice… it’s the ONE THING RULE. The thing you need to learn next is the thing that plays to your strengths. It’s the thing that enhances and augments what you already do well and it will expand your capabilities.  The thing you know you can’t do is the thing you need to find someone else to do..or to at least point you in the right direction.

Entrepreneurs are problem solvers. We don’t like not solving our own problems.  But because our hearts are so invested, we can get tripped up with our own centralized perspective.

The issue isn’t money. It isn’t time, knowledge or even skills. The issue is not external.  The real strength in solving problems that haunt you is addressing the “haunt” part.  To stop the “haunt” DECIDE to find someone who can help you figure it out.  The mere letting go stops the chatter and opens up this vast new ocean of possibilities.

Then you go from inward, downward and stuck to outward, onward and upward.

Today, pick one thing that is really kicking your tush..and think of one person you can speak to about it. Just that act will move the needle in the right direction.

  1. This is excellent advise! So true that we like to problem solve, but sometimes we just need to get out of our own ways. Thanks Lennie Rose!
