Get More Business – Get Less Busy

Between social media, digital media, blogging, twitter, Linked In and networking, a small business could go crazy in the acid rain of information and options.  Just doing a task takes you to a browser that lures you into reading a story you could care less about.  Sure you’re more informed, which might come in handy,  but you are LESS informed and accomplished on the subject you set out to learn in the first place ..and this little distraction can lead you down the slippery slope of finding out more about the subject you didn’t want to read in the first place.

What is so astounding is that you might not even be aware you’re missing.

Couple this with a personal default setting of checking email or just hopping on social media to see who is doing what and you have just been snared into an information conspiracy!

It is the fight by content providers, friends and this profound need for connection that is vying for your attention …and for many of us, they’re winning!

Think of the days when you get nothing done because you’re so busy!

Well I have a solution – if this reflects your time usage, fire yourself! Then re-hire yourself and retrain your time management skills.

1. Don’t check your email every five minutes. Pick your times- and first thing in the morning is the worst time to pick. The first few minutes of your day can be dedicated to accomplishing something meaningful for your small business.

2. Switch your browser to Google – it doesn’t assault you. If you can’t switch, ignore the news stories because making your own news is essential to moving your company ahead.

3. Recognize you’re on default when you’re on default and snap out of it! Or in the Zen sense be mindful.

4.  I love this one, Jan Wencel of Life Contained gave this to me. Get a little timer. Set it for each task.  You’ll get more done.

5. Recognize the worry loop. It’s exhausting thinking about what you’re supposed to be doing.  Turn the worry into a task and put the task on your list.  Worry drains you.  Actions keep you motivated.

6. Lastly, align your actions with your revenue goals. That’s the bottom line! Do what brings in the bacon.
