Blog Insights – Inspiration is not at odds with an editorial calendar

For those of us who love to write, the joy is in discovering the inspiration of the day! You never know what’s in your head (of value) until you download it onto paper.

Free flowing writing channels pure original insights. These can lead to business breakthroughs or crystallize ideas that were gasses until they were assigned to words.   Julia Cameron advocates Morning Pages as a pipeline to your source.  She suggests you put pen to paper unstoppably upon awakening until three pages are filled.

Yet, organized, effective communicators advocate creating an editorial calendar and  to select topics that offer value,  thought leadership, ignite discussion or provide new skills all relevant to your area of expertise.   This method requires you put your ideas in an orderly fashion,  schedule them into an editorial calendar, evolve them as you evolve and upload them according to plan.

This year I’m doing both.  I’m going to skip freely or slug mercilessly through my own human experience and create an editorial calendar of topics for the entrepreneurial journey.

The beauty of blogging is that now there is a space where free expression and expertise can coexist – so you can be yourself and represent your business in one uncensored swoop.

  1. That is a fine approach, and the best of both worlds… one process should inspire the other.
And as an aside.. Julia Cameron was my mother’s sponsor in AA!
