Coloring Decisions

Cards and stationery went into production. Every decision was times 500. At the onset of the process I said to my designers, anything BUT pink. But there it was, a proof of the cards in a honking shade of magenta. It wasn’t on my radar. The designers just did their thing. They listened to the company, what it wanted to be and how it wanted to say it. Then they captured this and presented it. The result: honking pink. The Big Ooga keeps making up its own mind and I have to keep staying out of the way. It’s difficult because I’d rather steer. I don’t like free-falling into trust. But that’s what entrepreneurship is all about, the cross-section of faith, clarity and execution and staying out of your own way.
What has surprised you about your own business? Did you stick to your plan or let unseen forces shape your decisions? Did you hold on too tightly or let go too easily?
