Form Relationships Built on Respect and Reciprocity

We are a Chicago area community of accomplished entrepreneurs – who want you to succeed. For real and not as an elevator.  We have incredible affiliations and partnerships with other communities such as the Evanston & West Sub Chambers – and I was recently named the head of the Linked N Chicago Entrepreneurs Network – by  Founders, Mary McFarlin and Bob Tricarico, who have built a community of 27,000 Chicago business members and growing strong.

Me (just in case you’re wondering)

I’m Lennie Rose and I started Big Ooga because wonderful, talented people needed to meet each other.  AND because “networking” situations in networking clothes using networking words seemed far afield from forming genuine relationships.  Big Ooga is filled with people brave enough to be themselves.  Think of us as your business family – looking out for you, lifting you and helping you get found by others.

In my real family, I have raised successful children, was social chairman of my high school class, Ms. Congeniality in grade school and president of our investment club, which was named after my hair-do at the time – Beehive Investments. I have a head for business, a heart for people, a love of this country and treasure authenticity. That’s probably enough – but I want to throw in I read voraciously and make a mean martini.

Big Ooga Events – We Meet the First Tuesday of each month – which is Free to listing members

The community’s number one value is integrity and the ambiance of each event is hospitality and intelligence.  We come together to give of ourselves and through giving we lift collectively. There is always an exciting program and this month Crain’s blogger, author and entrepreholic, Barry Moltz has cooked up an exercise to sharpen our entrepreneurial acuity.

Do Something Crazy and Join Us!

If Big Ooga is for you, then get off the sidelines and join us! Become a listing member for $14.95 per month and come to the events for FREE.  Once a member you can bring guests, host classes and we will promote you because you deserve it. You are not alone. We would love to meet you!

The World Has Come To This Blog

Celestial globe by Vincenzo Maria Coronelli, N...Image via Wikipedia

Each night while I’m asleep and the other side of the world is awake – people in far off languages comment on my blog.  I’m changing to pig Latin here to confuse the search engines: they send ude-nay pictures of famous people, words that take me to places I don’t want to go, offers to enlarge body parts I don’t have and off or-shay banking I don’t want to know about.

aave-say your ut-smay!

If it relates to Chicago small business – terrific. If it relates to self-improvement, improvement of skills, playing it forward, networking, business insight, marketing or connecting with like-minded, genuine or innovative people – Hurray!

Ankyou-thay but no Andkyou-thay. There’s 10 gazillion blogs in the universe and I promise someone will be happy to know you!

Business Blogs & You – How to Increase Your Traffic

Let’s say you have the most brilliant business blog on the planet.  It is well written, well researched, optimized and rich with SEO words like business networking, small business marketing, Chicago professional networking, social media tools AND it is a great read with deep insight and usable tools that will impact your bottom line.  BUT you have no incoming links, no one is actually reading it, and no one is commenting either.

So – what can you do to make one change that will take your blog into a broader outreach with lots more people reading it? GET INCOMING LINKS.  Yes, incoming links work to build everyone’s readership.

There I said it! If you are blogging – link to me and I’ll link to you! You are more than likely in business and  if you are a friend of mine you are probably smart and good looking / and or have cool stuff- have lots to say of value and perspective. So Link. Come on, let’s move into this space together!

Why the Big Ooga, Part 1

Mountain forests in Sri Lanka.Image via Wikipedia

It’s not my child but it IS my Baby and I‘m giving it my heart and soul. Every entrepreneur I know feels the same way about their business … they love their work, they spend their time, they sacrifice their money, they handle every aspect, they bundle up their dreams and they take them on the open road.

There are times when the direction is clear and the skills we have are sufficient. There are other times we get lost and need to grow. That is the time we seek out experts and expertise. It’s also the same time of great epiphany … when we realize …

This part, in itself, is KILLER.

Building a team is like looking for needles in a haystack … or worse, needles in haystacks that are in Sri Lanka.

So how do you find your people, and in the best of all worlds, right out of your own business community? How do you trust that your ad in Craig’s list is really going to find you the right assistant? How do you bring someone into your inner circle, ramp them up, verse them in your brand, treat them like family, train, inspire, teach and trust them while counting every second because time is money and the learning curve is so steep?

If you had your own HR person, that problem would be solved – but you probably don’t have one on your bench.

You could use a recruiter , but chances are they won’t want you .

Hire a friend, but that’s courting disaster.

OR … you could just go out there, ask around, get referrals, fly blind, make calls and you will possibly find the right person.

Isn’t it hard to believe that THIS has been the method of choice? It’s like using a default setting to grow your company because it’s so dang hard to find your people.

That problem has just been solved. It’s going to be easy to find great people. Because that’s what we’ll be doing day and night…finding and qualifying, talented, dependable, reputable people to help you grow your business. That’s why we created the BigOoga™ Because the old way just isn’t good enough.

Welcome to the dawn of the OogaSphere™ . Things are about to change.

The Dawn of Big Ooga

It’s Kowa-Bunga Day!

We are at Big Ooga opening today with a pre-launch registration. Is the water fine? Will it sail? Are we there yet? Will it soar? I’ve imagined it, saved for it, planned for it, found the people, trusted my instincts, trusted my people, given direction, backed off, dug in and let go.

But there is still that moment when the curtain goes up and all you can do is let ‘er rip – where planning meets reality and hope intersects with action – where there is only going forward and no turning back.

Welcome to the dawn of the Big Ooga. May this be a place that propels and connects you, makes you smarter, more successful and more capable. May you be forthright and gentle with your constructive criticism of this community, open with your requests for its evolution, and generous and inspiring to each other. May you help me help you in every way possible so the Big Ooga can thrive for generations, and we can all grow old together, never retiring and working as entrepreneurs in village industries of our choice where distribution is robust. To the dawn and to the horizon! Here’s to us!
